Today’s devices are constantly trying to augment and extend human mental faculties. More recently, enhancements in the fields of smartphones, social media and cloud computing have made the presence of computing nearly ubiquitous, which has put the power to extend our intelligence and other mental capabilities, constantly within reach. This evolution of computing has given rise to a branch of applications augmenting the human memory, from Facebook’s birthday reminders, to shopping list proximity alerts. Most of these products are focused on reminding users of the nonphysical, such as remembering appointments, events, answering e-mails etc., but the area of remembering physical objects is largely neglected within this branch of products. Embrace is a wearable product intended to augment the user’s memory by actively and unobtrusively reminding the user of the most essential everyday objects, if left behind.
